(F). Functions of the Department
The department is responsible for:
- Teaching Epidemiology and Community Health as part of the MBBS programme including supervision of undergraduate projects.
- Clinical training of undergraduate and resident doctors in community medicine and public health.
- Assessing students through continuous assessment, end-of-posting exams, logbook verification, and professional MBBS examinations (Written, MCQ, OSPE, OSCE, and Orals).
- Conducting public health research.
- Organizing field postings in clinics, companies, NGOs, and agencies (local, national, and international) for public health exposure.
- Conducting clinical training during consultants’ clinic days.
- Organizing seminars and proposal presentations as part of training for undergraduate and resident doctors.
- Supporting public health initiatives within the university and the community.
- Assisting in emergency preparedness and response to disease outbreaks.
- Compiling and submitting an annual report of departmental activities to the university administration.
- Providing health care services at both the teaching hospital and community levels.
- Conducting community health outreach services through rural and urban health centers.
- Offering pre-employment screening services.
- Supporting occupational health services through collaborations with industrial companies like OLAM and Dangote Cement Factory.
